The CSRO is a nationally registered not for profit that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for persons living with a spinal cord injury. The CSRO aims to find a cure for paralysis by helping to fund targeted medical and scientific research. The charity also strives to create awareness of spinal cord injuries through education and prevention programs aimed at specific groups.

On February 16^th 2013, the Thornhill Country Club once again hosted The Dominion Spinal Tap Charity Bonspiel in support of the Canadian Spinal Research Organization’s (CSRO) Shoot For A Cure Curling campaign. This year marked the 22^nd Annual Bonspiel; an event that proves to be a success year after year.

The Spinal Tap was founded in 1992 by Ryan Durham and his family, and for 22 years they have seen this event grow by leaps and bounds. This year’s event did not disappoint, bringing in a total of just under $43,000 for spinal cure research!

This year, event-goers were treated to a tropical beach theme that helped to heat things up on a cold winter day. Participants engaged in a full day of curling and then enjoyed a wonderful beach themed dinner accompanied with a silent auction, exciting prizes and an entertaining dance party!

The Thornhill Country Club has been the gracious host of The Spinal Tap for all these years and has always provided support with both the planning and execution of the event. The CSRO would like to extend a very special thank you to all of the Spinal Tap sponsors, fundraisers, donors and participants.  We thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing everyone again on March 29^th 2014 for the 23^rd Annual Bonspiel!

 The 6^th Annual MTO Reconnection Tournament will be held at Cardinal Golf Club on Monday June 17, 2013.  This annual event is an opportunity for current and former MTO colleagues to reconnect, while raising funds for a worthwhile charity.

 Again this year, the tournament is in support of the Canadian Spinal Research Organization (CSRO) and as a participant, donor and sponsor, you will support the CSRO and its mission to find a cure for paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries.

 The CSRO is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding research to find a cure for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and to reducing spinal cord injuries through awareness and prevention programs.

In 2012, the CSRO collaborated with the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation and launched the Ontario Spinal Cord Injury Research Network, which brings scientists and clinicians together to collectively advancing solutions and improving the quality of lives for those living with a spinal cord injury.  Proceeds from this tournament will support the efforts of this Network.

With the support of golfers, dinner guests and our generous sponsors, $30,000 was raised at our 2012 tournament for a total of over $140,000 in the past five tournaments.  This is truly an accomplishment!

The 7^th Annual P.I. Charity Hockey Challenge supports the Canadian Spinal Research Organization’s Shoot For A Cure Fundraising Campaign. 

Last year, together we raised an amazing $77,733.01 to be exact, but we can raise more in 2013!

 The cost to register is $250, but if you raise $500 in the Pledge Incentive Program, you play for free!  Not only that, but we have some AMAZING prizes to go to the top 9 highest pledgers!

What better way to spend a cold February evening, but at our ‘Spring Break Beach Party!’ Join us for the 22^nd Annual “The Dominion” Spinal Tap Charity Bonspiel on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Thornhill Country Club.

 So break out your favourite beachwear, cabana-wear, and even Hawaiian shirts, and pretend it’s not snowing outside for at least one night anyways.

 Those of you who participated last year will remember that the event was again a huge success, raising over $55,000. Thus, bringing our 21 year total to over $450,000. Let’s make it our goal to raise $50,000 this year, bringing our total to Half a MILLION Dollars!

For yet another year, the sun was shining at the 5^th Annual MTO Reconnection Golf Tournament, which took place onMonday June 18, 2012 at Cardinal Golf Club inNewmarket.  151 golfers teed off at10am for what always promises to be a great day of golf, a delicious dinner and an enjoyable experience mingling with old colleagues, who are more like old friends.

            This year, the event raised over $30,000 for the Canadian Spinal Research Organization (CSRO), bringing the grand total of the tournament to over $140,000 since inception 5 years ago.  This is truly an accomplishment and would not be possible without the generousity of the sponsors, participants, donors and outstanding committee members who volunteer their own time to plan this tournament. 

Every year, the tournament receives an overwhelming response from golfers and sponsors.  “It is truly heart warming to see the Ministry of Transportation community pull together to support the common goal of finding a cure for paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries,” comments Mike Dorman, Executive Director of the CSRO.  On behalf of the CSRO, thank you to everyone who makes this event such a success year after year.  Your support allows the CSRO to fill our mandate to fund scientific and medical research, which brings us not steps, but strides closer to finding a cure for paralysis.  We look forward to continuing the success of this tournament into 2013!

Guests were treated to a fabulous day on the links at Kings Riding Golf Club in Aurora, where they sampled delicious food samples from some high end Toronto restaurants and tested their skills in an assortment of contests.

The day was capped off with dinner and an always exciting silent auction, hosted by Joseph Falconeri.

Join the CSRO & ONF on November 21st for the launch of OSCIRN

Join the Canadian Spinal Research Organization and the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation as we launch the Ontario Spinal Cord Injury Research Network (OSCIRN) on November 21st at the Thompson Hotel in the 1812 Lounge from 5-7pm.  

The OSCIRN is a collaborative network of clinicians and scientists, working together within the five Academic Health Science Centres, to facilitate the conduct of multi-centre clinical research on topics related to pre-hospital care, acute treatment, rehabilitation and community re-integration of individuals with a spinal cord injury.  The Network’s mandate is:

1. translational research

2. research across the continuum

3. integrated knowledge translation and implementation

4. integrated health economics

5. provision for “horizontal” & “vertical” reserach

6. provision for investigator and industry driven research

Only ten years ago the belief in a cure forSCI was thought to be a false hope. Now, most people in the lay and scientific community recognize that it is no longer a question of IF there will be a cure for paralysis, but a question of WHEN.

With the support of golfers, dinner guests and our generous sponsors, just under $35,000 was raised at our 2011 tournament for a total of over $110,000 in the past four tournaments.

The CSRO has raised nearly $21 million for spinal cord research since 1984.  The CSRO is most proud of the development of the drug Fampridine-SR, which has been proven to improve communication between the brain and the spinal cord.
