As we look back on 40 years, there have been many improvements to how spinal cord injuries are treated, and the quality of life people can expect to have. All of this progress has been driven by research. We’re proud to have been a part of this progress, with every fundraiser and every donation going back to SCI research.
There have been many notable milestones over the last 40 years:
- In the era before the CSRO, the idea of a cure for paralysis wasn’t even talked about.
- In the 40 years since that time we have seen advancements in SCI research, funded by grassroots initiatives and strategic partnerships that are making a difference in the lives of people living with spinal cord injury.
- We have raised over 30 million dollars for SCI Research
- From epidural stimulation, to brain-machine interface and exciting work in the area of neuroplasticity and activity-based restorative therapies we are seeing the result of decades of work coming together.
- In addition to research, we are funding empowerment – in partnership with NASCIC and the development of the SCI Research Advocacy Course whose graduates are positioned for the next wave of engagement in research.
- Our events continue to bring together communities every year to support SCI research. From the Spinal Tap Bonspiel now in its xx year, to our Lawyer’s Hockey tournament, the MTO Reconnection golf tournament, and the R5K+ Resiliency in Motion 5K race we are so thankful for the support and dedication!
- In 2025 we look forward to new connections as we bring together people with lived experience in Canada with researchers looking for informed advocates. As the research process evolves we look forward to being a part of upcoming research and continue to make progress in the fight against paralysis caused by spinal cord injury.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
