Nearly four decades ago, Barry Munro’s world changed in an instant during a summer swim on August 1st – an injury that not only altered his life but sparked a relentless pursuit of hope and healing. For 38 years, Barry has been a driving force in spinal cord injury (SCI) research and advocacy, witnessing remarkable advances while confronting the urgent challenges that remain – and it all started with a simple swim on a long weekend.

While it’s true that we’ve made substantial progress therapeutics and quality of life research, with many people living with SCI experiencing better health and even recovery of function in some cases. But despite this progress, the reality is urgent and sobering: people with SCI continue to face life-threatening complications every day, many of which are invisible to the outside world. Tragically, lives are still lost too soon.

This fall, the 2025 R5K+ Canada-wide race for SCI Research is a critical opportunity to accelerate breakthroughs and save lives.

Your donation fuels the vital research that can prevent these life-threatening complications, restore hope and change the future for thousands living with SCI.

We can’t turn back the clock on spinal cord injuries, but we can make the future better – with your help.
